Especially the snare, it has an ugly ring to it.

Thanks Gregg, I agree mate, Chris Layton is a top exponent of the Texas shuffle. I always admired his left hand independence.

saw Gregg perform a clinic with Virgil Donati and Dom Famularo in Perth Western Australia. Worse. Guy. Ever. Could kinda tell he was jealous of Virgil's incredible talent.

Well, one thing about electric drums - if you don't like the sound, you can tweak 'em until you find a sound you do like. Even your acoustics are electric once the sound wave goes into your mic and head towards the PA speaker.

Great explanation on the "Texas" Blues Shuffle. But now I'd like to see a breakdown of the Terry Bozzio lick!

What makes this a Texas shuffle instead of a Chicago or Kansas City shuffle? (Besides the fact that he says it was inspired by Chris Layton).

Great lesson. Thanks for posting. I'm a guitarist using this info to program beats for scratch tracks of new material. Too cool of Gregg to credit Chris Layton for this beat.I've seen Chris play many times and yeah, he's the master of the Texas Shuffle. Terri still lives here, I believe. Cheers from Austin.
