Artist: Turisas

Album: Varangian Way

Year: 2007

Genre: Epic Metal

Lyrics:

Time to raise a toast to our generous host

Jarisleif!

Jarisleif!

Ruler of the Rus from coast to coast

Jarisleif!

Jarisleif!

May beer flow as long as we can stand on two

All the pretty girls, come, keep us warm!

Tonight we drink, no room for depressing thoughts

Fill your horns!

The entire album follows a theme, and tells the story of a group of Norse Vikings sailing the rivers of "Rus" in the 11th century. Jarisleif is the Norse spelling/pronunciation of Yaroslav, referring to Yaroslav the Wise, who ruled Novgorod and Kiev. The song is from when the Vikings feast with Yaroslav (there is a lot more history involved, I would highly recommend doing some study on Rus/Ukraine in that period and comparing that to the stories off of this record.). In closing, yeah, this song f***ing rocks - it is high up on my list of songs to play when people ask me about Folk Metal.

I'd be grateful if someone Russian speaker would write down the lyrics in the end (in cyrillic letters). I've tried to search but I've never seen them written.
