i caught this in a bar last night and didn't realize it was low. low are famous nowadays, right? but, they've changed their sound, too, haven't they...i tried a few times, but i couldn't get into their 90s stuff, it just lacked the punk rock pizazz that the better post-rock acts had. then again, i didn't like sigur ros, either, for mostly the same reasons.anyways, this is awful. what was going through my mind was that it was the most bourgeois thing you could possibly due to a punk song. i was imagining some art school grad in a smug sweater and those dumb glasses singing it in a church, *with candles*, trying to get the audience to feel the spiritual awakening of it......and completely missing the point of it.

i understand what you are trying to get at but whenever i hear 'making it their own' it just reminds of of clichés that come out of judges mouths on tv talent shows. I understand that Low doing a cover of a Joy Division track is high praise indeed as they are an excellent band that I've come to really appreciate, just think it's the intensity that is an integral part of it's appeal, everyone has different views though, that's what makes music such a great thing :)

i like this cover for the very reason of its pace. is it better than the original? nope. but Low did take it and made it there own. i think they knew that the speed of the original made it so great and decided to take that and flip it on its head. they do speed things up (a bit) at the end ;)

Really like Low but this cover just doesn't work for me. The frantic pace of the original is essential to the structure of Transmission for me. Maybe Atmosphere would have been a better choice but saying that I'm not a massive fan of people covering Joy Division as it always tends to sound second rate :/
