Of course don't forget Yes, Dixie Dregs and ELP and all the solo offshoots from all the great Prog bands: Steve Hackett, Bill Bruford, Tony Banks (Curious Feeling), Mike Rutherford (Smallcreep's Day w/ Simon Phillips on drums). Oh and another great Prog band from the '70's that never really got anywhere, Starcastle (Fountains of Light & Citadel).

I'm pushing 51 so I've got 30+ years of listening advantage over you although I recently discovered Spock's Beard and The Flower Kings after spending a few decades immersed in grunge, alternative and Christian music. So I'm getting back to my Prog roots. Rush All the World's a Stage was the first album I ever bought and Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick was the second. Got to see JT, Genesis, Yes, Rush live back in the '70's.

Surely there were a lot of other stuff in between. Than I came up to downtempo ambient postrock trip stuff like that. All that stuff is not to bad, and I do not mean to say this stuff is better. But since I discovered steely dan marc cary and all that stuff with various rythms, tempi and complicated structures, I really entered another universe

Love that stuff, just came up with it. My musical background is like that: When I was twelve I listened to Papa Roach and Blink and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, than I heard all that German Gangsta Rap like Manuellsen and Snagga, than I switched to Minimal and house stuff, oh wait before that I listened to that creepy house music like dj antoine.

young people (most, i am 18) don't like this music because it is too complicated for them. it doesn't have a permanent 4/4 beat, neither does it have a drum line that accentuates each quarter note of the beat. (hope you could understand that, i am german :D )

and this will change in due time if all goes well :D

It is just that most of the people who like prog rock are older, because this is not a kind of music for everybody. The fact that there's a lot of instrumental parts, and it changes all the time (no main melody) does not cheer people to come listen to this. I am sure you know, but prog rock always have been a kind of music that just certain people like it. Or you like it or you don't.

yeah Dream Theater too is epic but I think it is more metal progressive than progressive rock. It depends on their albums, like A Scenes From A Memory is really prog but their last one is more metal. That is why I put them in a different category, but don't think a minute I don't like the band, I am a big fan of Dream Theater!

I'm just 14 and I love this music (prog. rock) I think that I and 5 other guys on my school also love this music. it's really sad almost everybody doesn't like prog. rock.

Progressive rock and metal seem to be the gems of today's music. Transatlantic and Symphony X, primarily. You guys rock (So to speak).
