Tony e' un grande Batterista,pero' mmm non mi convince Caravan fatta cosi',troppo da pentolaro,secondo me era meglio se non la eseguiva proprio,lo considero un Fail bello e buono,poi ovviamente il mio e' un giudizio personale.

Caravan is one of those charts that exposes/highlights a drummers mettle. I'm not a hater...I just hate it when accolades like "best ever jazz drummer" are so misapplied. Tony may have fast hands and feet on his fills but he has way too much travel in his sticking....especially when he's playing ride. This may give the illusion that he's playing fast...but trust me the tempo just drags compared to how the Jazz legends strap in. He doesn't have alot of dynamic discipline (dynamics is not just about volume) which is why the tune feels flat. He's playing along with the band but he's not really kicking their butts through the levels the way this tune demands. Buddy Rich, Jo Jones, Elvin Jones, Luis Bellson, Art Blakey, Tony Williams and Max Roach (to name a few) all drove this tune to depths this guy doesn't touch.

I'm sorry but tony is just straight out over rated. There was now flow with his swing and no build up with his solo, no complexity, just lairs of singles between atoms, snare and feet. He's a power drummer and a damn well good one, the best there's been in a long time but that's it. I know of nothing else he can do other than power, and I've looked. I've really wanted him to be versatile but he's just not.

I personally like drummers like Luke Holland who use smaller kits. Yeah he uses about 7 cymbals over all but still with four drums I find it harder to get a variety of sounds while playing. I just don't like when guys use huge sets. First, it isn't too relatable to have +6 drums. Second, you don't need a huge kit to be considered great, e.g. Buddy Rich, and Jo Jones.
