Too get all these soft notes as precisely as he does, the action would have to be super low, probably light strings - tele-like. There's no way you can pull this off on a medium string bluegrass rhythm guitar. I could be wrong, but that's my bet.

Tony has just got those "MAGIC FINGERS"...Had a friend who played his "CLARENCE WHITE" D-28..And he says the thing is set up like a Telecaster and buzzes really bad..But Tony knows the guitar in and out and he gets the most out of it..."ONLY TONY"..

The must amazing thing about this is that his style is not a mechanical system of crosspicking. He just plays the next note he wants to hear. The barred hammer on the F chord he does is just at 6:34 to Bflat is incredidle. How does he get it that clean?? Of course, a serious Santa Cruz guitar helps a lot...
