you're both crazy. :P The (only?) CD version of University is perhaps mastered a little louder than ideal, but it still sounds LOADS better than most of the compressed hack jobs of the last few years. For example, the drums have some punch to them & stand out instead of just sort of blending in to the pt. of impotence. I can actually crank this CD on a decent system & it sounds pretty darn good, instead of getting all congested & garbled like newer releases infected by the 'loudness wars'.

Apologies, I mistook your brevity for something else. I'd just love to hear the masters given a little better treatment, the music deserves it. Drums are really bad on University, shame because this defines the Muses sound just as much as melody. 50' Wave is much better, brutal, sound. I think that a more bareknuckle approach would benefit both albums greatly. (Sorry for the snarl!)

Got them and love both. Unfortunately they aren't very well mastered (ie over-compressed), not that one would notice through a mobile 'phone. Any other pearls of wisdom or are you done?

it's a crying shame that download culture means that university or ramona can't be remastered and re-released (i'm waiting for a shit-storm of indignant reposts).

this is such a gem of a song, perfect guitar pop with it's pants on backwards. this song was the first that i ever heard of the muses. i put university on my (pretty decent) sound system at an uncouth level and this came tumbling out of my speakers. it totally freaked me out, as did some of the other killers on the album. i have been in love with kristin's songwriting ever since, even the stuff that is more cerebral and difficult to absorb.
