Apparently you have no idea who CS Lewis is. I think its based on Paul's Imprisonment in the book of acts and the underlying meaning is foreshadowing of the second coming (last two lines of the song) and also our death and shedding of this frail human body... triple meaning... Kind of like a parable has a literal meaning and an underlying meaning

All these comments on how thrice is a christian band and thats what they focus on. No like so many others said some in the band ARE christian and that has a real impact on there lyrics and musical input BUT. Its a sort of passive/passing notice so that the people who are religious let that part of them sink into there own personal meaning from the songs. I am 100% athiest and thrice is probly my all time favorite band, i sense all the religious context from their albums but still love 99% of it

The song has both religious and secular meanings...Most of Thrice has strong Christian undertone, but Dustin writes in a way that doesn't put names or places so that secular fans can draw their own meanings...that is why Thrice is such a great band, imo...Dustin can cater to both sides without compromising his beliefs.

It's completely about the Bible. It carries Biblical apocalyptic overtone, just like the poem C.S. Lewis wrote has a Biblical apocalyptic overtone. Yes, people are free to interpret poetry however they like...but that doesn't change the obvious intent of the writer.
