Lyrics:

Last lights wink out on this pale and sultry night.

Stars signal long past two AM.

I feel the lateness in the hour

and I'm fifty long years from home.

A new dawn glimmers. Time for a change of horses.

It's time to chart new courses

and head for safer houses.

No more empty towers of this unholy Babylon.

Some four hundred thousand hours have come and gone.

I smell, in the air, a new meadow morning.

Fresh-flowering grasses stirring

and no pressure free-falling.

Thin mists to bring and light airs to call.

And we treasure all, all that we left behind us.

No pointed cold and dark regrets.

No nameless blame to lay.

Resolute, the optimist, I ride fresh horse and spur it on.

Four hundred thousand hours have come and gone.

It is so different from the JT of 1972. I like a lot more the old one. This one is good, but I think another stile of music.

По мне "Thick As A Brick 2" успешно это сравнение выдерживает.Прекрасная работа, требующая нескольких вдумчивых прослушиваний, после которых вы откроете для себя всю красоту и магию этого альбома...

And, his instrumental choices in this composition WITH his voice, at this time in his life are perfect paired. It is where we are.And we are optimistic without reservation or excuse, nor placing external blame.

This is one of those 'perfect' songs in time & space. Cladist in like evolutionary mindset. Of similar age and a traveling business life, Mr. Ian Anderson has written a song I have played again and again. I've lived and live what the music evokes in both day, night and reflections to take a change of course. Race forward, head long to experience a 'fresh' Vernal Equinox.

Ian made a deal with the devil, for sure. How it is possibile to immagine and create such a SUPERB music after about FIFTY years from the beginning? just AMAZING. thank you Ian.

Not at all. The song was around long before Tull's last tour together, it was even played live by Tull first.(adapted a bit for TAAB2) A couple of the many reasons for the IA solo, are: Martin is working on another solo - This one will be a double album, and let's face it, Martin's not getting any younger either. If he's going to get his solo work out he doesn't exactly have time to endulge Ian on the HUGE undertaking of not only recording TAAB2 but the long tour that comes with it.

LOVE LOVE THIS SONG. It reminds me a lot of Loreena McKinnet's style.

In the future, people will look back and regret not being alive when Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull graced our presence. Like othershave posted, his music may not be universally accepted until time and perspective makes it clear..

I have to say I like his older music better. However, I can't blame him that after 40 years he doesn't have the same power behind his voice. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than pleased that he still makes music. And I'm not saying that this is bad, just that I wish his voice was as amazing as it once was.

The history of Tull is one of epic, multi-year virtual silences and then kaboom, here we go again. Too much nay-saying. Ian has done, and expressed the desire to do solo work before. Let them all enjoy themselves I say. I won't predict the end of Tull until their all locked away!

Does anyone else find it a huge coincidence that this song was recorded right at the time Martin Barre left the fold (for the time being) and Tull has been put on ice? I can only think the change of horses is an obvious metaphor for the fantastic new band. If so, it very poignantly and respectfully put. It brings tears to my eyes and goose bumps to my arms. 400,000 hours have come and gone for us too.
