The Tin Man was originally going to be played by Buddy Ebsen (Who would go on to star in 'The Beverly Hillbillies'), but a near- fatal allergic reaction to the aluminum dust they had been using as the Tin Man's makeup caused him to drop out of the production and be replaced by Jack Haley.In a way, I'm glad that happened. Haley brought such warmth, gentleness, and emotion to the Tin Man that fit him perfectly.
