A vibrant and energetic performance of one of the more recognizable songs by The Who. From the "hits" disk of the three disk Tommy/Quadrophenia live concert collection. A must-have for Who fans: http://www.amazon.com/Who-Tommy-Quadrophenia-Live/dp/B000B9PW6M

Oh, yeah, after the powerhouse performance ending on an incredible coda, doing synchronized mike twirls. Unbeatable.

Is there anyone else in rock history at age 45 who could sing with that much sustained power and control while running in place for something like 3 minutes, without ever appearing to be the slightest out of breath? Even Mick Jagger at his most athletic couldn't top this performance. He did at 45 what most rockers dream of doing at 23. And still smoking' hot.

Not to everyone's taste, but I love the fuller sound that they get from adding great backing vocalists and a brass section. A great tight performance too, with Daltrey on top form vocally. And never forget thee man on bass -Mr.John Entwhistle

50 YEARS OF THE WHO25 August 1964. It's a Tuesday which means the Bluesday Club at the Railway and The High Numbers are on tonight. In 1971 The Who released their first and finest compilation album called Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy and the Railway hotel was shown on the inside of the gatefold sleeve. The original album title was to have been The Who Look Back which explains the Graham Hughes front cover photo of the band peering out of a window while four young kids pose of the front door step. One of kids was Bill Curbishley's younger brother Paul.

I was in London in 1981. My first stop after acquiring lodgings in Earl's Court was SOHO. I hopped on the underground (I still have the map) and headed for London's Red-light district. I'm 17, on my own, and have a couple of hundred dollars(US) in my pocket. The switchblade is in my back pocket. I wander into a 'hostess-club' and get pretty much clipped for the cash. The bouncers took the blade. I get it back as I'm heading out the door broke with a hard-on. I'm staggering back to the underground and a policeman is in my face. The gates are closed. After midnight, you see. The girl who clipped me wanders up and says I can crash on her couch. Worst hangover ever. I survived.

Nightwing690, this song was inspired by an incident in which Pete was woken up by a London police officer after he had fallen asleep in a doorway after a long night out with (IIRC) one of the Sex Pistols.
