In about 1998 at a concert in London, Ontario, Gord said, "This is a song about a Cop." So the song could be from the perspective of an RCMP officer posted to Thompson, Manitoba - "Somewhere between dream state and duty"?

dallas did a radio interview just before the release his album stating that sleeping sickness was one of the first songs he had ever written. however he could not get a rythm for it After hearing this song on tour one night it hit him, this was it, so he called gord and asked him if he could use it gord said of course dallas asked him if he would like to sing in the song gord said yes. gord also tried to sing like dallas on sleeping sickness. oh yeah both songs are track 5 for a reason :)

@godlovesugly208 Yeah this song was written 1998 so it's a possibility that Dallas Green took some inspiration from it. The funny thing is, the lead singer of The Tragically Hip, Gordon Downie, was featured in City and Colour's song Sleeping Sickness! So there is a good chance we're correct.
