I don't agree that David Ruffin was THE group. I fell in love with the Temptations, the WHOLE group, the original five, even before David sang lead. I loved Check Yourself, I Want a Love I Can See, The Way You Do the Things You Do, The Further You Look, the Less You See, and so on; we had a line dance we used to do to I Want a Love I Can See; it was too cold. Those songs may not have been #1 hits, but they kept a party moving. I loved and appreciated David Ruffin when David was a Tempt. David Ruffin had records out before he joined the Temptations, and he made records after he left the Temptations, yet he never had a solo career that even came close to matching his fame when he was with the Temptations. So, what does that tell people who claim David was THE group? If David was the group, the group would not have achieved success without David, and David would have become another Diana Ross or Smokey Robinson when they went solo, but we all know that didn't happen. However, the Temptations did survive without David Ruffin and survived well. The Temptations' Grammy win in 1969 was the first for Motown, and David Ruffin wasn't in the group. Don't get it twisted, though. I love David Ruffin, always will, love watching Temptations' videos when David was in the group--completeness . I just don't agree that David was THE group. David was dynamic, alright, but no way was he THE group, not from my perspective, anyway.

People talk alot of shit about David Ruffin and his bad ego, but in this performance and many others he shows lots of character. You might ask how. David isn't trying to outsing anyone. He singing in harmony and not at singing his best.
