I think in particular Mahalia had one of the most powerful and beautiful human voices imaginable, the richnessand tone of her voice was unparalleled, But with all that being said, I can only say, Jessye introduced me to opera, Mahalia took me to church, but Sarah educated me on life.

Can anyone name, even in opera, a female singer with a richer lower register. She covered the scale with the same full depth of tone. Not a single flaw in any register she used. I had the pleasure of hearing her perform live in an open air concert. And even under the cover of the night sky, the richness of her voice would literally pierce right through you.
