@jarrett p its true that you cant see any mics on the amps, but the amp sound here is deffently a close miced sound. they couldve had the amp speakers in another room completely to help stop bleed in the live room. if not i have no clue but deffiently a close mic sound, either sm57 or ribbon mic

Doesn't work like that for rock music. I think I see a microphone on one of the amps, I could be wrong. Any guitar that you hear though is either close-mic'd on the amp or sent through an amp simulator in the computer, and the amps are only used as monitors and to be picked up in the bleed from the other instruments' microphones. You're right, an omnidirectional mic WOULD the amps up. However, the clarity and amount of treble definition in these guitar tones is just not achievable using a roo

Yes, I am. I've done it so many times, and you actually do get very good sound from it. It's also how they mic up orchestras and choirs sometimes, to get the whole of the sound. You just need an omnidirectional condenser, and that will pick up the amps. The cymbals on the drums need their own mics to be heard above the general sound, the same with the vocalists.
