I bought the 8 track when it was released in 1978. Actually the music of the Rutles was IMHO way better than a lot of the crap in pop music in the 70s.

The best song the Beatles never wrote, because Neil Innes is a genius.

I'm a little surprised to find out that Paul was "frosty" towards Eric due to The Rutles. John must have loved it, and George was even in the movie. There's no foul intention here. Eric Idle is a HUGE Beatles fan and yeah, it's satire, but this was made out of the utmost adoration, not contempt.

If the Beatles had been half as good as this, they would have been moderately successful.

Absolute genius. The best song Lennon & McCartney never wrote. I do this in my busking set, throw it in among bona-fide BEATLES songs and nobody seems to notice the difference.

It's 1964. So why is there a backend of a '78 Rabbit in the "fire escape" video (1:23) ?!? Love the Rutles.
