It only sounds like that because he stops playing the cymbals on the snare beat, creating a break in the continuous beat, which only sounds like it's cutting out. Or you just need better speakers.

Yeah, I listened with earphones and it sounded much better once I could tell what they were. lol And I think it was just taking a while to process when I first heard it, sounds cleaner than when it was first uploaded.

Those 'pops' are claps. I'm listening on a pair of good headphones and it's pretty obvious. Though this doesn't account for the fact that yes, the claps (or clap sample) are probably just a bit too high in the mix. But as for the compression, which I saw being commented on as well, the quality in which they converted this too is pretty piss poor so things are going to sound a bit funky. I can definitely hear the compression but that doesn't account for some...awkward-sounding vocals.
