This is a studio copy of The Producers' song, Dear John.

One cool song. Its not the best audio, however, as I did a line-in directly to MovieMaker from a Tascam casette recorder.

I just thought someone out there might enjoy this. I couldn't find a studio version online, so I figured I'd upload one. In my college days (the big 80's!) , my band, Nouveau Riche, (the drummer of which is now with the Velcro Pygmies- hey, Chris!) opened a show or 2 for The Producers and they were quite nice guys. We could never understand why they weren't more well-known nationwide than they were at the time, because they wrote killer tunes.

I don't do Youtube for money (obviously -note my account), but I'll gladly remove this if Producers representatives wish. Just let me know. Otherwise- enjoy.

Great photos and poster art! One of my favorite bands of all time. I caught them a few times in small clubs in San Francisco and Palo Alto back in '83. Swiped a poster from the venue and hung it up in my college apartment. Also caught them with Tim Smith after Kyle Henderson left the band. A bit of Bryan Holmes drum trivia. The fill in this song where he uses the bell of the ride cymbal is the same lick he uses at the beginning of Chinatown. Check it out.

Dude, you are so right. I'm from North Carolina, and they came here to Raleigh at that time also. I was in a band, and we all realized how awesome they were. They are one of the most under-rated bands of all time. I have all their material that is available, that I'm aware of. I could never understand why they did not become Super Stars.

I thought this was the band's best song music-wise. Wasn't too terribly fond of the lyrics, though.

I was lucky enough to catch these guys in NY back in 1892 when they first toured, before anyone even knew who they were. "She Shelia" was just getting air play on MTV. I was involved in bands at the time and these guys just blew us away. Not only was their energy and stage presence spot on, but they sounded amazing, I mean really amazing live band and their sound guy was brilliant. Being in bands we knew it was live but I'm sure many thought it was the recoding and they were syncing. That good!!

oh ok. I thought you meant a recent show. Cool. I see on their website, they did some shows this year, but looks like they're done for now. I'd like to see 'em again for 'old times' sake. Maybe they'll book a few gigs in 2013. (?)

I keep thinking that it had to be around spring of '84 ? I'll have to dig up my photo albums. I got their autographs and kept the newspaper clipping in one of them.

I caught their act in Buffalo. It was an awesome show ! The guys mustve thought I was nuts. I was up front, knew every song and was excited as hell to hear them live. And then to finish it off with "A Hard Days Night" blew me away !

Yeah but Bryan'n not the only drummer to make funny faces as they crack into that snare drum or rolls around the set.I remember seeing Stuart Copeland several times as well as Neil Peart and they made all kinds of faces when they slam into their drums.Look at some of the old The Who or Hendrix Experience clips and you'll see them guys make all kinds of faces too.Drumming hard is very physical so sure you're gonna make some faces, but who cares as long as they rock the songs right?

Yeah the drummer does have the facial tick thing going on but he’s a great drummer. All those dudes were the best at what they do. I use to run into Wayne Famous and the bassist for the Brains at 688 quite often. Those were the days for sure. I’m pretty sure they were both there when Echo and the Bunnymen played that night.

@Lampster65 : yep . funny you'd mention that about the facial gestures, because I was remeniscing the other day about a gig we did with them back in 1985, and that thought came to mind. During their sound check we noticed his contortions and we were struggling not to laugh. Not to be mean- he's a great drummer- but it is funny looking. I remember that night we were wondering if he was making fun of someone else, because we thought he was joking. lol. good times.

I was in the studio in Atlanta when this song was cut, sitting in the control room across from the studio. These guys were amazing.

Loved these guys back in the day. I had the first two albums on cassette and unfortunately lost them. I would love to find the CDs of both of those albums.

Where can you buy their records? This particular song is for me a very special piece of music. I was one of those who used to hear all records in an album to find lost diamonds. This is one of those songs that you think they are great from the beginning but as it ends you discover it is still much, much better. I would really appreciate the info. Thanks and keep posting them. For me still and will be one of the greatest bands of my youth…

This and "You Go Your Way" are two of my favs from these guys. Bryan Holmes was a big influence on me as I had been playing drums for only 3 years when I first heard She Sheila (loved the splash cymbal) on MTV. Always admired his style. I especially like the tom fills on this one! I still have the first three vinyl albums.
