I like the later stuff from Pretenders too. Great band no matter what line up it was. But this line up with Farndon and Scott was something special. This song is briliant.

Late December, 1981 and I'm on winter break during my sophomore year in college...down from Boston, visiting my family on Long Island. Had a distant cousin I'd always had a crush on. Picked her up in the dorms at her school, NYU. We planned on seeing the Pretenders at the Bottom Line that night but were convinced we missed the show. Snow delayed everything in the metropolitan area that night. We were not optimistic. We arrived at the dance hall at 1am but the party was still going on (Ashes to Ashes on video screens and all the kids were dancing.)2am the band comes on with a crash! They open with "The Wait" and the place erupts. The show and dancing go on until sunrise. My cuz and me grab breakfast at a diner in the Village. Lord, it was great to be young.
