Albert, James and Clarence never ever performed as the guitarist in a three piece .

Yeah they might be but Mick pioneered playing rhythm and lead at the same time and whilst the guys you mention are great, they are not as exciting to watch and listen to (for me anyway)

Those country guys are much more skillfull on a tele like Albert Lee, James Burton, and Clarence White

I have a version of this by the Roadrunners (I think?) both great versions! Such a good sound, well balanced throughout!

Much heavier than in their Johnny Kidd days. Hot sweaty Rock "N" Roll.

@geminiaxeman You have to be joking! I recorded a better version than that in 1964 and our version STILL didnt hold a candle to johnny kidd and the Pirates version. And live? Incredible. First opened for them at the Rex ballroom in Cambridge in the early sixties. We thought we were pretty good till they went on.

I saw them several times and they were the most powerful band live I've ever seen with more energy than all the young punk bands of the time too.

@banjaxed31 Too right..I caught The Pirates live at Scunthorpe Tiffanys of all places and they blew the place apart. Mick Green was a relentless wall of sound..stood there sweating his balls off ,legs apart...Ive never heard such power from a Telecaster. RIP Mick...many thanks to Frank and Johnny for a great gig that still is fondly remembered.

Johnny Kidd & The Pirates were in absolute rock'n'roll experts - this gig at the "Rockpalast"showed that the band kept him after his death, an honorable keepsake. For a year is Mick in heaven - R.I.P.! Since the mid-70s, the "Rockpalast" an essential part of music television in Germany. The "Rockpalast-night" with live broadcasts of concerts are terrific cult. Videos you can see on rockpalast de. Best thanks for uploadin' and keep on rockin' from Germany.

I saw the Pirates in 1977 - more noise than a B52 on a bomb run. RIP Mick

It's great to see this! I've got a CD of their shows in Japan, ca. 2000. The best part was the description of a show they did in England: they showed up, no sound check, no rehersal-I assume that's what "Peter Gunn" is for-they start playing and everything is sounding right by the end of it. Mick Green is beyond great!
