Somehow I thought of this after our conversation. The Orange County Supertones were one of the Big Three Christian ska bands in the '90s. (Along with Five Iron Frenzy and The Insiderz. And yes, there were more than three. A lot more.) Actually, I believe they're still going.Look up the lyrics and see what you think. I'm impressed that they focus on a personal faithfulness to God ("I will...") and yet title the song after a doctrine that emphasizes God's faithfulness to us. This is scripturally correct: whenever the idea of persevering in salvation is discussed in scripture it is used either to encourage those who are standing strong or to warn those who are in danger of letting go, never to suggest that those who are strong could become weak and fall away. If this is how scripture speaks of our salvation, then we should do the same. The ska sound is very 1997, but you may still enjoy it. I look back at it with a little bit of an attitude of "I'm glad it was cool then and we enjoyed it. Not so much any more."
