NOT TO MENTION he died before 1940, so this was a time when thinking like that was much more acceptable, nearly half of everyone did.

Fuck being politically correct, Lovecraft was a great writer, no matter what his personal beliefs were. I can even see from the comments, the egg shell-walking, guilty-feeling white people, especially considering you're talking about black people when he was just as racist against italians, greeks, and the like. That sort of thinking, especially in this day and age, diminishes art. If you feel guilty about enjoying something created by someone who may not of had the nicest opinions, then you should throw away all your books, music, movies, etc. Everyone thinks something someone else finds deplorable, even if it's something YOU have designated as so much worse, like racism, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy their art or that their art doesn't have merit. Just fucking enjoy it, or don't. If you feel like you have to personally approve of every thing the artist thinks just to consume their art then: 1) that's mentally ill 2) you'll be left with very few things to enjoy, and they'll all be nice and polished and boring with no negative things written in it at all.

I have a couple of suggestions for episode topics. I’m not sure there’s enough meat on them for entire episodes though.Lovecraft was famously racist and backwards in many ways. It’s pretty apparent in his fiction, and I’ve personally argued that his feelings of alienation and revulsion are a large part what makes it powerful. It’s not the kind of thing I’d want in my game though. The question is can you take that out of Lovecraftian horror gaming and still have it be as affecting? Are you left with a game you might as well call Tommy Guns & Tentacle-Gribblies, or can you substitute some revulsion of your own for Lovecraft’s fear of mongrels and tainted bloodlines? The other topic is cosmic horror. What the heck is it, and how can you invoke that feeling at a gaming table without sounding like a L’Oreal ad in reverse (“…because you’re worthless!”). Have we outgrown humanocentrism to such a degree that feeling powerless in the face of uncaring alien titans is no different than feeling powerless in the face of Jason Voorhees? And is there such a thing as non-Lovecraftian cosmic horror? That last question could tie in with the first topic.Of course I’d like to hear what you other Good Friends of the Good Friends think.I only heard this song yesterday. That's how with it I am.

He was racist, like most people in his time. Like the fouding fathers, like nearly everybody until recent times. He was a good friend, and a great writter.

He wasn't racist, he was sick. Schizophrenic. He didn't dislike black people, he genuinely believed that they were not humans. An actual threat to his well being. Moving to a majority black neighborhood must have been like being thrown into a lions den. He literally woke up afraid of his own shadow, and seriously believed that things were going to put his brain in jars... The man came up with some of the craziest monsters... They were all real in his head.

sometimes I think about how Lovecraft lived in his mother's attic all his life, except for the one time when he married a girl, moved to Brooklyn, hated it really bad because he was a racist loser, divorced the girl, and moved back to his mother's apartment.I derive great pleasure from remembering this.

My coming to New York had been a mistake; for whereas I had looked for poignant wonder and inspiration in the teeming labyrinths of ancient streets that twist endlessly from forgotten courts and squares and waterfronts to courts and squares and waterfronts equally forgotten, and in the Cyclopean modern towers and pinnacles that rise blackly Babylonian under waning moons, I had found instead only a sense of horror and oppression which threatened to master, paralyse, and annihilate me.HP Lovecraft, 'He.'
