We don’t want to think that something as ugly and brutal as combat could be involved in any way with the spiritual. However, would any practicing Christian say that Calvary Hill was not a sacred space?

me think (methink) is an archaic English verbal expression equivalent to "I think". Many European languages have similar dative verbal expressions that have almost disappeared in English. For example: mir ist kalt (German) or mnyeh cholodno (Russian) - literally, "to me is cold". The expression methink (methought) could be considered as "to me the thought came". In this song the choice is "poetic license" - the author probably believed it would convey more of a reverent feeling in English. It is interesting in that regard, that the familiar forms "thou, thee, thy, thine" have virtually disappeared in common English, while equivalents are still widely used in other European languages. In English they come across as "stilted", or archaic - but are still occasionally used to convey reverence to Deity (being associated primarily with the Bible and other sacred writings). A bit ironic that the "familiar forms" convey more reverence than do the "formal". Originally it was intended to be the other way around.Aside from the question of the English usage, this is indeed an absolutely gorgeous song, rendered by arguably the most prestigious religious choral group in the world. I'm particularly fond of the development of the lyrics in this song from a historical scene of Christ's triumphal entry, to his crucifixion, to the future vision of a new city coming from heaven as promised in the Revelation of John.

Finding a great solo voice to render this magnificent hymn is hard enough, but 150 of them?
