I Think This Video Shows their Strengths and Weaknesses in beginning to play their own instruments. But it was a brilliant idea to reverse the instruments and have Mike Play Bass and Peter Play lead Guitar. Eventually they did play live and got better with Time. I wish I could find the original video when the Monkees Played live in Japan at the Budokan. They actually sounded better than the Beatles believe it or not. And I am also a big Beatles Fan. But the Monkees- the Prefab four were also legends in their own right.

What is that screaming cat sound sprinkled thruout the song? I thought mine were fighting! I'm guessing it's some kinda weird overdriven guitar... But yeah.... I woulda left that off... It's kinda distracting!It's an otherwise fantastically superior mix. Thanks for posting! :-) This is how their lineup SHOULDA been all along and they woulda been much better in their real band outings. (by their own words)

Mike and Pete both play multiple instruments. Mike played 12 and 6 string electric and acoustic guitars, bass, harmonica, piano, electric organ and maracas. Pete played the guitar, bass, banjo, piano, harpsichord, and french horn. Mike swore in interviews Peter was the better musician, but many of those who worked with both from Headquarters on disagreed.
