Great version and in fact the best I have heard. First heard this song by Sha-Na-Na in the early 70's and I didn't like it at all. Didn't like the original verson either when hearing it later. But you can't knock the vocal skill of the Mills Bros. I have never bought any of their records as I only buy 50's rock'n roll, but now I'll order Bear Family's "The Popsters they tried to rock vol.3" as this record is included. Many thanks for posting.

I selected a YouTube upload from some person who calls itself 'ativo compulsivo obcessivo' whose 'Mr. Bass Man' w/Andrews Sisters is a compilation of Andrews Sisters snippets with the soundtrack of that tune that led me to believe your comment to be untrue? So sorry about that and I will remove that comment from this site.

A truly rare and excellent find and upload. And Don Mills' tenor lead vocals herein are nothing short of superb with this sometimes garbled lead vocal intro whether Silhouettes or Mills Bros.!

This is very different than the normal style of the Mills Brothers, but I like it! This is good.

I saw them in Las Vegas in 1977. They didn't do this song, but they were magnificent. I think that was near the end of their run, but they sounded terrific!

As Harry Mills put "We were the Beatles of 1930." They were not really that old in this recording Late 40's to early 50's. Younger audiences today have to be dazzled by hype such as light shows on stage, smoke and fire. If today's "singers" went on stage with just a microphone and simple props they would fold like a cheap suit.

I recently purchased the stereo version of this lp. The lead vocal by Donald Mills is also excluded in this version. I wonder why? I will look for the 45 rpm single to compare. I love the complete version.

You are correct. I have the lp and the lead vocal is missing entirely...just thought it was arranged that way...I wonder what happened in the transfer from 33 to 45???

I've never hear this version before. I like the Mills Brother's version better than the Silhouetts. It's clearer and easier to understand.

By 1958, the Mills Brothers by the teenage audience was seen as "square", so they had to get on the doo-wop bandwagon as an attempt to say current. They did come back with "Cab Driver" in 1968 to reach a somewhat younger audience. This was a common practice by the "clean cuts" to cover black artists songs in the '50s.
