I think the only reason Paul looks awkward at all is because he was used to playing guitar on stage, so what is he to do with hands etc when he doesn't have one?

I think Paul was right to call it quits, if he felt there was nothing more he could have done with the Jam, so be it. Imagine if they had gone on all through the 80s into the 90s. The Jam wouldn't be the band you remember them as, if they had continued.

Makes really awkward viewing 30 odd years later. PW really sold the guys downs the river didn't he? And you get the feeling he knows it. The Jam were a bloody great band though.

We shouldn't compare The Jam from The Style Council since both have a different approach, musically ! FYI, as a musician there is a need to experiment. Musical Growth is Crucial, especially in Paul Weller's case, he wanted to feed the audience with something new aside from being stifled with The Jam's Direction..........

Paul looks great here, all ready for the Style Council...sure he looks a bit uncomfortable but it's Top of the Pops and he's having to mime the lyrics. Some bands who disagreed with this rule used to mess about etc.. Weller trying to give a fair performance for fans while still showing a bit of contempt...
