this song makes my eyes wet when I recall that I recorded it on my tape recorder.Who remembers what a GADGET is it? I was about 13 y.o. and came to E.Germany with my parents and started to watch telly with West Werman channel and Beat Club...I still like the group because of their clean silver voices and the manner they are dressed and present themselves not like todays show men and singers..

Alan Clarke literally grew up as lead singer of the Hollies. He grew from a nice looking boy with a great voice, to a fine looking Man, with a voice that matured also, and was just wonderful.

In response to my earlier suggestion, wouldn't surprise me if George (anybody do genealogy on the Beatles?) maybe had a brother, and who kinda also looked and sang like Graham? And that George also may have assisted getting that brother and the Hollies, together, and/or recognized here in the US or abroad? Seems to me Clark, who as we all know and love today, did not then appear as lead singer with the Hollies, at least so it looked to me in that early clip "Just One Look." Also maybe in some other clips from back then, on U-tube. Anybody know anything about this? That said, the Hollies name by the way (and self admitted) was likely influenced by a then popular American group at the time (Buddy, if you will), and who after leaving the Crickets (before the bugs hit town) was also contemporaneous with other British groups then hitting US shores. I could not, however, find on the internet when the Hollies first formed, or their first released recording anywhere, here or there. So anybody out there know this?Still love them, although today, as a modern-day Hollies convert, WDGY back then didn't air much music from good old England, or Canada, as I grew up, listening to my brother's $10 pink Hitachi 6 transistor radio by night, or if you could find a high spot in town (a kind of aerial assist back then). And all this and more, in good ole mid-central Minnesota, USA c.1960s.Oh, well, good grief, Charlie Brown. So, today, other than the Hollies (on U-tube, and maybe some others), the only Beatle songs I listen to are Paul (Flowers in the Dirt), and George (Dark Horse), repeat, repeat, repeat -- at least until I reconnect to Alan and his group out there in cyberspace (thank you for that), once more forgetting everything I've ever known up to that point, and then just tuning out. Oooh. Well, better than aspirin. With a beer..

I didn't know they did this record. Came looking after hearing it at a Black Bear Diner. (They also played Joe Brown's version of Here Comes the Sun.)Now I have to figure who did the twangy version of The Great Pretender...
