This popular Country song was recorded by Rockabilly group The Fendermen in 1960. The group got their names from the guitars they played, usually through the same amp giving an unique sound. Very prominent on this classic track and as such, no drums were needed. The Fendermen version of this song is the one which inspired Psychobilly band The Cramps to record it years later.

This video is dedicated to Jim Sundquist of The Fendermen, who sadly passed away this year age 75.

Late in the summer of 1960 the sound of the cowboy was heard on the pop charts on a rather consistent basis. One of those old country and western sounds was redone by the Fendermen and it was called "Muleskinner Blues". This one just reminds me of a hot summer day towards the end of August which for people in the southern part of Texas is probably the norm from mid April through mid October. Or beyond. The song hits the supplemental supplemental survey at # 3189 and for me sort of goes with # 2857 on the supplemental survey and # 2258 on the main survey rather nicely.

Memories, lots of them. A group of us went to see the Fendermen every weekend at the Jersey Shore for several years. Then me and my husband went to see them up in Canada and had a great weekend blast. What a great group of guys. I'll never part with my 45 RPM record of Mule Skinner Blues. Just wish I had the album. Hey guys, if you see this, you brought great joy to a lot of people with your music.
