We dial in some early 80's Edge-like tones using Giggity after a Strymon Brigadier. Also discussed are some tricks on how the guitar pick is also a crucial part of this sound.

A Fender Tweed Deluxe was used with the speaker mic'd in another room via a Rode NTK Tube Mic and Avalon 737SP channel strip into Pro Tools 10 HD.

NOTE: We recommend watching this video at 480p and higher for better audio quality.

I don't think that edge's tone is as gritty as the giggity is making it.Of course I could be wrong!

Quagmire approves the Giggity.

Sorry, but you got the wrong rig...To achieve the sound of The Edge all you need is:1) Strato with selector on both middle and bridge pickup1) Hedrim blue pick (upside down, ousing the gripping side).2) Vox AC30 amp3) Memory Man Echo/Delay or TC Electronics 2290 rack (but Boss DD3 also sound pretty close)4) Ibanez TS9With this stuff (and the proper playing) the tone is perfectly the same! :)

awesome.I would like to add at one time for a few years, Edge had an old 1970-80 Randall combo amp to help with his cleans. I thought he had a roland jazz120 or fender twin, nope it was a beat up old randall. Seen pictures of his rig was aww struck how big and notice the randall.

Awesome video...and for those who are just beginners like me, that pick detail is something I am very glad you included. So thank-you! Great tone and sound too...you're good!

To get Edges sound also. You need Hadmin picks. You will want use an VOX ac30 through the Brilliant channel and add your over drive and delays on top of that.

For those not in the know about these samll details, it may seem a little fickle but the picks that The Edge use are actually an important part of his sound, He uses Herdim picks (the blue one). The dimples go al the way to the edge (no pun intented) and by playing them upside down you get a scratchy, hamonically charged rich sound with more sonic artefact if you want. A bizarre feel at first but very addictive in the long run.

Didn't The Edge start out using a Deluxe Memory Man? Great demo, good work.

The best picks for U2 are the Herdim blue picks, made in the old West Germany but still very much obtainable. The Herdim blue picks also have the dimpled area but across a bigger area and likewise you use them in the reverse sense.

Edge uses Herdim Picks. They have the rough material on them designed to give you better grip on the pick. When you play with that side of the pick it gives you that "sparky" chime that Edge is famous for. Unfortunately Herdim picks are hard to find in the states. Dunlop makes a pick called the Herco that is the same thing though. I love them, but they are a little thin for me.
