Bernie Leadon's tribute to Gram Parsons, off On the Border (1974).

Tell me the truth, how do you feel?

Like you're rollin' so fast that you're spinnin' your wheels?

Don't feel too bad, you're not all alone

We're all tryin' to get along

With ev'rybody else tryin' to go their way

You're bound to get tripped, and what can you say?

Just go along 'til they turn out the lights

There's nothin' we can do to fight it

No man's got it made till he's far beyond the pain

And we who must remain go on living just the same

I once knew a man, very talented guy

He's sing for the people and people would cry

They knew that his song came from deep down inside

You could hear it in his voice and see it in his eyes

And so he traveled along, touch your heart, then be gone

Like a flower, he bloomed till that old hickory wind

Called him home

My man's got it made

He's gone far beyond the pain

And we who must remain go on living just the same

We who must remain go on laughing just the same

I believe this to be one of the Eagles most unde rated songs, quite possibly one of Bernie's best.

Henley and Frey are really very liberal....I hate their politics! But, they are musical superstars. God given talent...Amazing really.

Well it was surprising to learn in the documentary (absolutely fantastic!) that Henley and Frey wanted to rock n roll and the other founders wanted to stay country rock. I love this song. I love On The Border, too. Lots of drama in the band though. Sad in many ways.

When I think about it, I bet Glenn would've found a way to dump Gram if he were an Eagle, too.

I was living in Topanga Canyon long, long time ago and in the Fernwood Market stood Bernie Leadon......all I could think of was this song so I said, "My Man." He smiled from ear to ear, then walked out!!! Great song!!!

My Dad died in '74 and I had this song. It tore my guts out and yet I could not stop listening, It's still my Dad's ode when I hear it. Big fan of Gram's too, both gone too soon.

A very poignant song for us that are getting on in years, memories of friends that will never die.

This is my favourite song at the moment, having just bought all of the Eagles back catalogue recently. I also agree that the Eagles went downhill after Bernie left although he has played with them again recently. Even though Hotel California is a good album - The Long Run and Long Road out of Eden are not as good as the others in my opinion.

The Eagles is one of my favorite bands. I like all the Eagles. I do think Glenn Frey was asking for it from Don Felder when he mixed politics with the band. However, i do think they were justified in firing Don Felder. Henley and Frey ARE the leaders. They do deserve the greater pay and decision making. That being said, I would like to see Bernie, Randy, and Don Felder all onstage with the current lineup. I think Walsh, Felder, and Smith jamming together would be quite a show.
