Had never even heard of this song when I visited England in 1972 where it was very popular all over the place.

One can hear future influence on pop music writing and arranging, like I hear "Hang on Sloopy" here and "Game of Love", but not enough cow bell.

I remember when I was 15 and this came out back in Highbridge the Bronx It didn't go far on the charts except for the NY R&B station charts and I imagine as this was 1965 Billboard reinstated the R&B chart after it lapsed for 1964 I think the British Invasion did it as the reason it was dropped was because it was coming closer to the Pop chart I always liked this lesser known Drifters hit as sauquoit13456 put it RIP Johnny Vaya con Dios

On this day in 1965 {March 10th} the Drifters performed "At The Club" on ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Sadly, exactly 24 years later on March 10th, 1989 group member Doc Green passed away at the age of 54... R.I.P. Mr. Green and Jimmy McNeill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013}... {See the next post below}...

On this day in 1965 {February 23rd} the Drifters performed "At The Club" on the NBC-TV program 'Hullabaloo!'... About three weeks earlier on January 30th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #43 and spent 6 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #10 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles and #35 on the U.K. Singles chart... Johnny Moore, the song's lead singer, passed away on December 30th, 1998 at age 64... May he R.I.P.

Love this song. It is my favourite Drifters number and reminds me of Fareham Youth Club in southern England. Well when I wasn't barred from the youth club for fighting, swearing or just being a 15 year old dick! :-)
