This song captures what it was like growing up in the 70s and earlier..the UK was a very different place. I'm not saying it was all good....it's bittersweet to look back...I'm leaving the country soon and feel some sadness for a lost world that I've spent some years looking for. It's not here anymore.

And what music can we put to this generation? It feels as though everything is turning to shit. No passion in music today. It's bland nonsense.

I remember winter 1962/63 a bit. Deep snow on Wormwood Scrubs, walking to visit girlfriend Linda's granny and getting cocoa. We separated 1963 and I made a snide remark about November 22, 1963 her 16th birthday and the day Kennedy was killed. 1963/64 not so snowy but I was caught and lost in a brief snow storm bicycle time trialing, they gave me tea & toast and sat me at a coal stove in Amersham bus garage that Sunday.

Their first single, "Life in a Northern Town" was a worldwide success and sizeable hit in the U.S., charting at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, from an album co-produced by Gilmour.[3] The song also made number 15 in the UK Singles Chart.[4] The single was dedicated to the English singer-songwriter Nick Drake. It was their only major chart success.

I am watching this as it is supposed to be written about Nick Drake. It seems to sweet and superficial. Go to the 40 minute biography about Nick if you want to experience what he was like. He died at only 26 and I can't believe what he could put together by that time. I only listen to his music at night. What is this chorus - Hey MaMa Mama? I always thought that sounded so silly.

Hebden Bridge doesn't look nearly as dreary and awful as we see it here in this video. Google images and see it in the sunshine. Although, admittedly, it does remind one of World War II footage.

Great group, great orchestration and the ability to put in the lyrics the names of Frank Sinatra, John F. Kennedy and the Beatles in a song!!

Great song. Anybody know which town is in the video? Halifax? Looks cold enough to chill to the bone.
