The Doors "Ships With Sails" from their 1971 album "Other Voices", the first album issued after the death of former frontman Jim Morrison. The song was written by guitarist Robby Krieger and Drummer John Densmore, and sung by keyboardist Ray Mazarek. The video is from a live performance at the Beat Club, and the audio is cleaned up from the original LP pressing.

Granted it's not the same without Jim Morrison, but Ray, Robby and John are phenomenal and underrated musicians. You need them as much as Morrison was needed. I find the post-Morrison albums fascinating. A shame they aren't recognized.

This post-Morrison song is a real gem. The guys are cookin' on this tune, sounding as good as they did on the previous two Doors albums. I listened to this in my car about 6 times today. Robby's solo after the second verse is one of his sweetest: fluid and melodic. I wish they wouldn't publicly dismiss their two albums as a trio. Morrison wasn't the only magic in the Doors, it was the whole band.

This is the Doors best post Morrison tune. Everything about it.. the crisp guitar work.. layered percussion... jazzy keyboards.. soooo tasty.....

Wow, I find it very limiting to diminish the greatness of this song because Morrison didn't sing it. For me it's one of my all time Doors favorites including all of Jim Morrison's classic hits. Why do you both need to judge the song based on how Jim Morrison would have sung it. He didn't. The song is as performed, recorded and produced is an incredible track.
