I echo most everyone's sentiments here. Im 57 and have a real arrogant set of Rock & Roll only 1960s and 70s driven standards. Its late so sufficed to say that these history conscious Decemberists have provided me with a very rare relatively new (O.K., im always the last to find out.) band to follow. I don't understand how anyone could hate this song .... perhaps more simple, but at the same time also one of the purest most honest set of lyrics I've heard about what it really means to want someone to love you.
