the steely dan version was always dark in a sense, but this version is painfully dark, sounds like josie seriously hurt the narrarator, he hopes she comes back but he dreads it even more. ful of fear and anguish, gorgeous.

A totally different and haunting spin on Steely Dan's version and it works out stunningly well. The visual is intense with beautiful tonalities and such nuanced facial expressions. The whole Darcy's take on Aja is a revelation. I played the original hundreds of times and this unexpected interpretation blows me away!

Love the song, not the video. Only one or two of these girls has the charisma to be "Josie" the rest of them look like every other bored 20 year old that inhabits Queen Street in Toronto - same uninspired copycat hipster aesthetic.... Except the girls on Queen St smile more. The director appears to have equated gravitas with ennui to turn out a regrettably mawkish video for a beautifully atmospheric rendition of a song that's about nostalgia, and love, not cheap voyeurism.
