The Coral - Gina Jones (b-side from the In The Morning single, 2005)

Lyrics:

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

And how the dark became her home

If you listen to the wind

You'll hear her cry

Pale, white, allergic to the light

Couldn't tell her day from night

The curtains were closed

To the world outside

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

As sad a tale as we're ever told

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

One day I'll walked an old school lane

Passed the headstone but never caught the name

At the end of the way

Stood the abandoned house

Fifteen crows perched on the gate

I turned the handle of twisted fate

And crept inside

Quiet as a mouse

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

As sad a tale as we're ever told

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

I pushed my hands out into the dark

She must have heard the beating of my heart

A voice called out

"My name's Gina Jones"

I've read about you and now I see

You will come to set me free

Kiss me on the lips

No one will know

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

As sad a tale as we're ever told

This is the ballad of Gina Jones

Our lips met in the blackened room

She said I had unsealed her doom

But the time had come

For me to go

Out the door and down the lane

I never heard her voice again

And the name on the headstone

Was Gina Jones

This has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard the music is so skilled the lyrics amazing the story so powerful so why they didn't release this as a single man it would of went straight to number one. Now it just sits here gathering dust and wow only 2,393 I can't believe all the rest of the coral fans haven't been curious to listen to one of the best songs ever written.

Just worked out the lyrics which I have added under the video, it's a creepy ghost story, it's similar to The Box too, definitely influenced by ghost story writers like M.R. James whom the mention in the lyrics to The Visitor.

This is one of the best songs i've ever heard oasis could never write a tune like this the coral are far beyond anyone else musically i guess people don't buy proper music anymore but if these guys were around in the 60's they'd be massive thats when real song writers were recognized and people were into great music the charts are so bad now it beggars belief.
