The 1970 song "My Baby's Gone Away" by the Chymes - a US soul group from Chicago, featuring the harmonies of the three brothers Victor, David and James Martin, also known as the Star-Tels. The Chymes were supported on this track by the Soul Crusaders, the house band of the Chicago label Down to Earth Records (sub-label of Lamarr) run by Burgess Gardner. This song is concerned with the plight of the soldier returning home from Vietnam to discover that his girl has left him:
"I'm out the army now
Back from Vietnam
Went to my old neighbourhood to find someone I know
Walked down the street to my baby's door
Her mother tells me she don't live here anymore
My baby's gone away...
I love my baby so, she should have never let me go...
I remember reading all her letters
How she used to say,
That she'd wait forever come what may"
