!NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED! i will take this down if asked!

i just love this song and it wasnt on here so i thought i might aswell, amazing song

Take me down next to the water,

Next to flowers and old times

I hope the view is still the same

Cuz I've been losing strength and power

Regret occupates my mind

I'm sick of loneliness and pain

I used to be young and free

Worried about my legacy

Now I'm aged and alone

I'm getting old and growing up,

Is not what it's cracked up to be

We're just names in stone

When you're young you think you're perfect

Indestructible and strong

Well let me tell you that you're wrong

Cause I have watched lives come and go

My God I've seen my children die

Respect and glory are just talk

I used to be young and free

Worried about my legacy

Now I'm aged and alone

I'm getting old and growing up,

Is not what it's cracked up to be

We're just names in stone

We're just names in stone 4x

Hold on to your youth cause soon you'll be old too

Hold on to your youth cause soon you will die too

Anyone thought that the names in stone might be names in GRAVEstones ? i mean this lyrics is in the end of the verse... it starts by beeing youth... getting old... names in (grave)stones. It says that we all will die . Sooner or Later... hopefully Later

I think this song is quite beautiful and can be interpreted many ways, as a lot of songs can be. I see it as the same message the comment below sees it: a sorrowful person who regrets a lot. Maybe he didn't make the most of his life, or he just didn't do the things he should've done.

Oh come on stop these comments about how the message is just so wrong. Its just how you view the song. I got a feeling that what you're saying is not what The Cab is intending to say. My interpretation in this song is that its telling a story about a sorrowful person who has many regrets in life. How he just let his youth pass him by. On the lines that starts w/ "hold on to your youth...", he is giving us a warning to make the best out of everything. That's the true message of this song.

think about it.....put your name on a rock and throw it in a pond. You'll create ripples...change lives, help the needy, cure diseases, hell. simply making friends and giving people the sense of love is enough to soften the hardest hearts....all it takes it one person to make the world a happier and more peaceful place....

@GenevaPilgrim There are billions of people on this planet, even if 1 milion of them are remembered for ages for what they've done it still makes others just name on stone, also i think u getting wrong, i think the person that wrote that lyrics meant by saying that that after we die we dont take our money, our friends, comanies with us. So we shoudn't take so much care about it. We are just souls and thats what matters the most ;) cheers!

For all the nay-sayers this song isn't about us just "being names in stone" If you listen and read (Paying close attention to the outro) They are saying you shouldn't want to grow up fast and just enjoy your youth cuz in the end we all die and the final destination is just being a name in the stone.

@GenevaPilgrim WE ARE JUST NAME IN STONES. NO MATTER WHAT WE DO ON EARTH AT THE END WHEN WE DIE WE WILL HAVE A STONE WITH OUR NAME ATOP OUR GRAVE.

@671rojas just names on a gravestone...that's the only thing we leave behind (not true, just fyi, unless you believe this song and live just to leave a "name on a stone")

"Hold on to your youth cause soon you'll be old too...Hold on to your youth cause soon you will die too" good thing thing all the inventors, scientists, poets, authors, theologians and everyone else who has made a difference in this world didn't employ this philosophy. Even this band can't really believe it, or else they wouldn't write a song like this. they would just kill themselves. because IT'S NOT TRUE. don't any one believe this lie.
