"Jesus Is Just Alright" is a gospel song written by Arthur Reid Reynolds and first recorded by Reynolds' own group, The Art Reynolds Singers, on their 1966 album, Tellin' It Like It Is.

Sheryl you are right This version by the Byrds is live and much older than the original. The original was much more exciting. The Doobie brothers' is more electronic and polished and musicality is superior.

I saw them perform this song in Central Park, N.Y. in 1969. At that time John York was still playing bass with The Byrds. He was later fired and replaced with Skip Battin who is the one playing bass in this video.

The Byrds were great from '64 to '68, but, after that, they produced a bunch of trash. With the exception of Clarence White's guitar playing, their post-'68 output is easily forgettable.

The Byrds' version of "Jesus Is Just Alright" was recorded on June 17, 1969 during the sessions for the band's 8th studio album, Ballad of Easy Rider. It was first released as part of that album but was subsequently issued as a single on December 15, 1969.

This version is..uh..OK I guess. But the Doobie Brothers version rocks WAY harder! Plus the Doobies version has that unforgettable bridge when the tempo changes to a soulful blues...the best part of the song!!

I coulda swore it was Frank Zappa on drums at 0:24 and 2:04 among other places! Maybe I am still eight miles high....either way, great version by one of the underrated live performing bands of the 1960s and early 1970s.

The Byrds and Richie Havens defined the late 60's for me. Liking Hendrix, The Cream, Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, Stones, The Who, etc. were naturals but the Byrds and Richie Havens were special.

Obviously you can't comprehend that there is a difference and a distinction between a state sponsored event and a private public concert. The Constitution, which I am sure you swoon orgasmically over, mandates that there not be a theocracy in the US. Why? Because they knew what theocracies were like in old Europe and old England.
