Bob Eberle had his name changed to Eberly when announcers kept saying the name as rhyming with pearl, like Milton Berle. To distinguish between the two, be changed the "e" to a "y."This is undoubtedly one of his best vocals for the Dorsey band. I also greatly enjoy his version of "Imagination." He made a solo record in the late 50's entitled "Tender Love Songs," which features solid renditions of "Brazil" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face."

I have to come back to the music of Jimmy Dorsey to remember my good friend Eddie...Born on the 4th of July, 1922 he was 30 years older than me and the most bashful man I ever knew. He was shot in the WW2, came home and found a factory job, never married or even dated, often the target of cruel jokes and teasing by his contemporaries. His refuge was Jimmy Dorsey records and Weird Tales magazine....He could name every JD single, both sides....when he retired he picked cans and collected pulps...

I think so--they were both so talented--and really added to what the Big Band Sound was all about--it was a romantic world of song and swing. Gone with the Wind! But we can still enjoy it. My Dad, bless his memory, adored both Eberly (le)'s

This was one of my friend Eddie's favorite songs....Eddie was a street person who could recite every Jimmy Dorsey single, A side and B side and he would sing these songs all day long while he pushed a cart looking for junk, all through our home town. Eddie's been gone now for 20 years, but he left me with his love for Dorsey and Art Kassel and many more bands and singers .....

Bob Eberly was the brother of the great Ray Eberle, the singer with the Glenn Miller Band. What a talented family they must have been. Don't know why the spelling of the surname was different - it may have been to avoid cashing in on the other's popularity.
