I remember being like 13 on the overnight train to Germany, reading "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" and listening to this song on repeat, creeping myself out by finding connections between the lyrics of the song and the story, haha. Now I understand that it's actually parodying the types of songs cough cough HIM cough where it's just a bunch of vague dark lyrics mashed together in pretension to sound deep and mystic (literally just "something diabolical"!) and looking back I just have to laugh :') Though the synths are still tight.
