It seems like yesterday but the most recorded pop song of all time was released exactly 50 years today!

The Beetles One tribute band recorded their version to commemorate this remarkable date in Beatles history.

Over 3,000 versions of Yesterday were recorded according to The Guinness Book Of World Records. Some of the artists who have covered this song include Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Marianne Faithfull, Marvin Gaye, and The Supremes.

This was the first Beatles song to capture a mass adult market. Most of their fans were young people to this point, but this song gave the band a great deal of credibility among the older crowd.

The tune for “Yesterday” came to Paul McCartney in a dream. He woke up one morning, late in 1963 in the attic bedroom of Jane Asher’s house (Jane was his then-girlfriend) with a complete melody in his head and set some nonsense lyrics to it. Paul’s original lyrics were, “Scrambled eggs, oh, my baby, how I love your legs.” McCartney has consistently talked about how easy this song was for him to compose. In describing it, he has said "I did the tune easily and then the words took about 2 weeks."

This celebration is due the British release of the album Help in 6th August, 1965, where the song can be found on the B-side of the record.
