Yea vinyl sounds better than mp3.. how does anyone listening to this know. They are listening to a digital file on a phone or pc that's been compressed by youtube

When I saw that they were issuing 45rpm audiophile albums on 180 or 200 gram vinyl, I wondered why they didn't try some 78rpm singles: well, here you go.  Why didn't it succeed?  Audiophiles don't care if the record is expensive, if they get quality sound, but most audiophile turntables don't have the 78rpm speed, just 33 ⅓ and 45; a big limit on sales potential.

I like my 45. Yours is missing the best parts - the crackles.

They went to all the trouble of pressing a 78 in MONO! Wasted

This Is the fourth one I have seen playing this very record. And all have suffered from that Head shell Shake??. Or Is It just a Illusion of the speed of the record under the lights??.

And speaking of this song on a 78, I have the original 45 of this one.

Classic! This is the reason why I can't play this song on my 1926 Victor Victrola VV 8-4, because this has a microgroove on the record surface, and it can play on any record player including my GE Wildcat, my BSR by Fisher and my GE Show 'N Tell, but I can't play this on my 1926 Victrola, no way!

This seems to me to be a bit of a novelty but there's no getting away that 78rpm records do sound better esp those issued in the later 1950's, ongoing improvements in shellac materials ensured almost a silent surface whether shellac or vinyl. All the theme music library labels on Conroy, Boosey & Hawkes etc issued all their singles as 78s throughout the 1960's latest I've seen is 1969 because of the professional sound range recordings offered when pressed on 78. These really do offer the best mono sound that is available, but all the 78s are orchestral. The great mystery is how did the 45s ever managed to outsell the 78s by mid 1958 and cause production to end during 1960. My answer to this is either cheap or bad record players or the record companies realised that by offering the 45 first at the record store in 1958 and delaying the availability of the 78 a month or so actually worked. And so Joe public moved over to the 45 & saddled with it ever since.

The faster the speed, the better the sound quality.  I remember the 10 inch 45 rpm records that had two songs on each side.  DJs played those back in the 80s a lot.
