On The Late Show with David Letterman to promote the release of the 'Across The Great Divide' box set, 1-3-95. Letterman's house band even joins in and has a lot of fun with it.

Who gave the green light to the absurd shadowing of the band? When has ANYONE seen Shafer play an accordion (which he proceeds to play so jewish) he tries to out-sing Danko, and then Levon , probably the most important part of the song is drowned out by whoever else is playing a MILLION THINGS AT ONCE.

If there is one drummer who needs no backup, it's Levon!

Paul Shafer is a Canadian so he probably liked the Canadian band.

Paul Shafer has a policy that he decides whether his band plays with the guests.

Miss Marie here...Professor Louie was there doing sound for the show. Whata memorable night! I loved watching that segment. I loved also performing with The Band.

Who's the bassist? Only one of the recognized greatest bassists and soulful singers in country-rock history, Richard "Rick" Danko of "The Band". Catch up with so much truly great music by watching the movie "The Last Waltz" (or clips on youtube if you wish) - the movie filming them talking about The Band and playing their last show all together and by listening to more dynamic classics of theirs like "Up On Cripple Creek" and "It Makes No Difference" amongst others. Look up Rick on Wikipedia where it offers a great summary of just how great he was by IrishTimes. com writer Laurence Mackin under "posthumous recognition". Dig in to it all - they're country/rock's very best! Hell, even Clapton wanted to be a member of their band.

Listen, man, I LOVE your comment. I hear disrespect for Paul too; and it saddens me. He is such a great musician that it puzzles me why anyone could hate on him...just weird... The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame really does matter, to many. I agree, Paul should be inducted :) Peace to you, Angus my friend.

Saw The Band at Watkins Glen Raceway in 1973. They shared the bill with The Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead. At around 1:00 am all three bands took the stage and jammed for about an hour. 600,000 of my closest friends agreed that it was one of the best shows we've ever seen.

I went to that concert as well. It was a time when The Band began playing with Jim Wieder on guitar (after the Cate Brothers days). It was the last time I saw them with Richard Manuel performing (probably summer 1984). A great but too short a set. We left after their set. After hearing the Band, what was the point of listening to anything else?

I think Paul Schafer would agree lol.
