The Babys, seen here on Top of the Pops in the UK in January 1978. The song they are performing peaked at number 45 but remains a classic in my opinion to this day. It faired better in the USA where it reached number 13.

The Babys were a British rock group best known for their songs "Isn't It Time" and "Every Time I Think of You". Both songs were composed by Jack Conrad and Ray Kennedy, and reached #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in the late 1970s. The 1976--1978 Babys line-up consisted of keyboardist/guitarist Michael Corby, vocalist/bassist John Waite, drummer Tony Brock and guitarist Wally Stocker.

After Corby was unexpectedly sacked by Chrysalis in August 1978, a replacement was sought and the company brought in two musicians: Jonathan Cain as keyboardist and Ricky Phillips to take over as bassist. From 1979 until the final breakup in 1981, The Babys line-up consisted of vocalist Waite, drummer Brock, bassist Phillips, guitarist Stocker, and keyboardist Cain.

John Waite went on to produce a major solo hit, "Missing You", in 1984. Stocker and Brock worked with Rod Stewart and other mainstream artists including Elton John and Air Supply. Cain left to join Journey. Waite, Cain and Phillips joined Bad English in the late 1980s. Phillips currently plays for Styx.

I cannot believe this is from January 1978. It still sounds fresh.

Not the studio version but definitely not performed live. Tony doesn't hit the drums and the guitars are not even plugged in. John does a great job as usual though.

I was told Benny Hill's backing singers The Ladybirds were used here, they didn't match the class of Lisa, Myrna and Pat (The Babettes) but were good for other types of music.Does anyone have a collection of John Waite guitar solos?

This isn't lip synched - listen to the studio version. Totally, totally different. Great stuff!

I wonder how many times they had to lip synch this song for tv. They look great though.

Kick azz song. Reminds of my girlfriend in the 70s. I already had it in a playlist but it had a ad that included physical interaction, so I dumped it for this one.

Waite looks like a kinder, gentler Johnny Rotten.
