The Animals lineup at the time of this single, in 1966:

* Eric Burdon -- vocals

* Dave Rowberry -- keyboards

* Hilton Valentine -- guitar

* Chas Chandler -- bass

* Barry Jenkins - drums on "Don't Bring Me Down"

The song reached the number 12 spot in the US, and reached #6 in the UK pop singles chart, during June and July 1966. The song was written by Gerry Goffin and Carol King; on the label Gerry's last name is mis-spelled Gossin.

Vinyl's audio track restored using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and Adobe Audition 3.0.1

Inexplicably, the M-G-M label says Gerry Gossin-Carole King are the songwriters. Yeah, okay. I wonder what Gerry Goffin thought of this? LoL

That pop when the needle went was heavenly! :)

Great echo effects from the guitar and of course the song/performance overall. I also like the live version they did on The Ed Sullivan Show.

On this day in 1966 {May 21st} "Don't Bring Me Down" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #12 and spent 10 weeks in the Top 100... It reached #6 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart and #3 in Canada It was their 10th and last record to make the charts using 'The Animals" logo; for their next eight charted records the group was known as 'Eric Burton and the Animals'. Original bassist Chas Chandler passed away on July 17th, 1996 at the young age of 57. R.I.P. Ms. Chandler

@sjruckle Actually, the audio track is currently about 8 dB lower than my usual levels for these vids. I was in a rush to finish this one up (some life-thing was going on), and didn't complete the remastering, which would have corrected the problems you mentioned. I believe that the slight (2 dB) decrease in level over the track length may be on the recording. By the time I noticed these things, it was too late - it was up here and there were already comments on the vid, so I left it as is.

@Garbhan51 Hehe! Thanks for the compliment! This record wasn't as beat up as the one I'm currently restoring - 'When I Was Young' - also by Eric Burdon and the Animals, and also produced by Wilson. Hopefully I can post that one soon, but it's fairly worn, and it's already looking like quite the challenge.

Lovely audio restoration, and the sound is a tribute to the production of Tom Wilson...so clear and dynamic.

Great recording, but I felt like it took a little long to get the song started... Going to see what else you have (-:
