I think this is a song about friends falling in love with each other, but each one afraid to tell the other about it. Perhaps afraid of destroying the friendship just in case the feeling's not mutual. so as years go by, having no commitment towards each other, they drift off and apart, as good friends, trying to get on with their lives. Until in the course of time, they get so locked up in their own private lives, busy with their careers, finally losing contact with each other in the end. When one of them finally gets the courage to say the things meant to be said, so picks up the phone to finally reveal untold feelings, nobody is home, cannot be reached (in millennial terminology) perhaps busy with work, or perhaps has found someone else to spend time with. Well, that is just the way it will ever be, since they thought of each other as just friends, instead of fighting for the love they felt for the other, they chose not to "bend" for fear of losing a friend.

Tatskie DV, thanks for sharing. I guess this song, and countless others in the 70s had inspired thousands of Filipinos, like me , to seek life abroad and fulfill their dreams. Quite a wonderful time while listening to Y101 or DYBU (in Cebu) on late December night and wondering what the future holds for me. Now that I'm settled, listening to these great songs again is like re-living those wonderful moments. Gives me happiness and fulfillment no amount of money can buy.
