Recorded on July 20, 1968, "Clowns and Jugglers" is an early version of the song "Octopus," Syd's only solo single. The version featured here is produced by Peter Jenner, Syd's manager. The overdubs were added on May 3, 1969 and were produced by Malcolm Jones.

The video includes many still photos of Syd that I combined in succession to create some exciting and manic Syd action. I tried my best to sync his movement with the music. Hope you enjoy it!

It's great to hear this tune with the Soft Machine doing the back up. To me it sounds like Robert Wyatt and Hugh Hopper are on top of it and Mike Ratledge is fumbling trying to decide what approach to take. I remember seeing a Soft Machine interview where they said they wished they had more time to perfect the tunes but after a couple of takes Syd said O.K., thanks we're done.

Heck, a lot of people today don't "get it". I finally "got it". Perhaps that was what he was trying to say with that "have you got it yet?" incident.

Syd was amazing. Y'know, I think he didn't approach music like other musicians. We was a painter, first & foremost....his music was an extension of that. He painted with music & sound. He was more of an auditory performance artist as opposed to a regular rock star/musician. People didn't get that....not his former bandmates, producers or anyone else.

Before people start spewing crap that Syd was "gone" and that this is off-time, it's the Soft Machine (the band playing with him) that can't keep up. Syd had this thing by then not letting the musicians rehearse the song, but going straight in recording it and having them follow his guitar. He'd change the tempo and time signature a lot and wouldn't let them re-record it. If you listen to the song "No Good Trying", they also barely kept up there, but that track produced some stunning drumming.

That was great. I love the live part after 1:25 as Norm here said. Dark side of trippy huh? Wow! Its such an instant success movie idea! Syd's crazy, dark, trippy, adventure filled psychedelic '67 rockstar and post rockstar life coupled with the ideology and reflection of Pink Floyd. WOW! TOO MUCH!

This is simply the best fan made video in tribute of Syd that I've EVER seen. Someone called it a labor of love - it certainly was. I can't even imagine how long it took to put this together. Taking still shots and turning them in animated snippets - it's like seeing brand new video footage of Syd after all of these years. Amazing.
