I've seen some Sweeney Todd stage versions and I have to confess that Johnny Depp is my favorite Sweeney Todd ever! His voice and his acting were perfect! Helena is good too, but I think her voice sounds way too nice, beautiful and sweet for the role... Anyway, I love the movie! :)

Where is the humor that goes on in 99.9% of the Priest adaptations? This song is supposed to be funny, with Sweeney and Lovett cracking up. Not to mention they butchered this.

For some reason, this song always makes me think of "Dog Eats Dog" from Les Miserables: the same sentiment as to how ruthlessly people step on each other, and then there are those of us who are smart enough to stay out of the way long enough to pick up the pieces."It's a world where the dog eats the dog..." and "It's man devouring man, my dear..." While they're both metaphors, they seem to mean the same thing.

For the most part Depp speaks his part, but it fits the part and song really well. Carter's is just too pretty sounding. Her voice isn't bad it just doesn't really fit the part all that well.
