JT Up Close & Personal. Filmed in picturesque Martha's Vineyard, this song features James and his highly regarded touring band as they prepare for their 1992 summer tour. The DVD - "James Taylor: Squibnocket" - captures James in the relaxed atmosphere of his home, thereby giving the performances a personal, intimate quality.

This is the band that recorded "James Taylor(Live)" in a rehearsal setting on Martha's Vineyard, and is probably the only live video available of the greatly missed Don Grolnick (playing in James' band). It also features the wonderful Michael Landau, who pulled out incredibly lyrical pedal steel sounds from his electric guitar.

Sun On The Moon Lyrics:

In line, in line, it's all in line

My ducks are all in a row

They do not change, they do not move

They have nowhere to go

I've been talking to a friend of mine

He says making money's just a waste of time

He's a lazy gent, he don't pay no rent

He's all bent out of shape from living in a tent

It's hard to hear what he has to say

'cause everyone around me is just the same way:

More, more, daddy gimme some, gimme some

More, more, daddy gimme some more

Some kind of funny looking money machine it is

Saddest looking people that I've ever seen

Living in a hole, body and soul

Strung out on the company dole

One for a nickel and two for a dime

Time may be money but your money won't buy time

In line, in line, it's all in a line

My ducks are all in a row

They do not shift, they do not move

They have nowhere to go

Me and my flea we were down by the water

Fell in a hole with superman's daughter

Living alone, chewing on a bone

Pretty as homemade sin

She had to be high by the look in her eye

Her hands were wet and her mouth was dry

The sun on the moon, the sun on the moon

The sun on the moon made a mighty nice light

Bow wow wow, honk your horn

In line, in line, it's all in line

My ducks are all in a row

They do not change, they do not move

They have nowhere to go

Sometimes I'm hungry, I don't know what to do

You can take a taco to katama too

I am a serious James Taylor fan!!!! LOVE this song and his great background singers(Kate Markowitz, Arnold McCuller, David Lasley, not sure of the girl on far right) Don Grolnick, love him and the great band. This is a favorite clip that I will watch over and over. i am a singer as well and this is what i love. (btw, David Lasley wrote You Bring Me Joy which Anita Baker recorded, so did David)

Oh oh oh oh! I am overcome!!!! Sometimes the world throws down a shower of jewels--JT song I had NEVER HEARD, and what a keeper it is! This recording in particular, so glorious! I always love to see him this animated. Fab! I hope they are having as much fun as they look to be having. I got here from "Frozen Man" and "Shed a Little Light" which I know as well as the back of my hand (and I use the fronts of my hands to play them). What glee is mine! I owe thanks to: Mr. Taylor, Carey McCleish, and....YOUTUBE, for what a gift is youtube, I haven't spent a nickel on music in 10-15 years.

One of the best "Feel good" songs around ... and once it's in your head, so hard to get rid of. ;-)

Well, I don't know about the rest but "Flea" is the name of his dog. So that helps makes sense of that verse (we were down by the water, chewin' on a bone).

Actually the song is not really about anything in particular. James Taylor once said the lyrics are really kind of nonsensical, they are just fun, but it is one of my favorites!

And awfully obscure. I suspect there are lot of inside jokes in his songs.

No telling. JT wrote some of his more memorable songs when he was high on heroin but he had gotten clean long before he wrote this one. The lyrics are pretty strange on this song though, no doubt about it.

Just saw him on the 3rd at Tanglewood. Before he started playing this song he said: "This song... well, this song is a song about nothing. I don't know what I was thinking." We laughed and he killed it (as usual)

chroeom, my boy who is 4 right at this time calls it 'The Duck Song' and he knows all the words and sings along in the car. Everytime we go somewhere he asks, 'Dad I we play the The Duck Song?'

I always thought it was about ducks....but I was 4, can you blame me?
